How do batteries, temperature and data connections affect a rangefinder?
A rangefinder needs a suitable power supply. Battery type, charge level and temperature affect it. Less usable energy may be available in the cold than at room temperature. A manufacturer’s stated number of possible measurements therefore applies only under the conditions given. Display brightness and wireless connections can also change power consumption.

Bluetooth and other connections can send readings to other devices. The unit and the type of distance being transferred must be clear. A directly measured distance is different from a calculated value. The wireless connection itself makes the optical measurement neither more accurate nor longer-reaching.
Check the requirements for additional functions too. Some work without the internet; others need an account, a server or activation. This belongs in a complete feature comparison. Software updates may change displays and connections. A test report should therefore identify the software version used. How transmitted data are handled is also part of assessing the product.
