How can optics be protected during cleaning and storage?
Dust, grains of sand and fingerprints cannot all be removed in the same way. Hard, loose particles can scratch surfaces when rubbed across them. Before wet cleaning, they should therefore be removed carefully, for example with a suitable blower bulb. Rubbing harder does not make cleaning gentler.

Use products suitable for optical glass, together with clean optical cleaning cloths or lens tissues. Even a soft cloth can be unsuitable if it contains sand or dirt. Household cleaners may damage coatings, plastics and seals. The optic’s care instructions therefore take priority over general household tips.
Optics and accessories should be dry before being put away. Moisture trapped in a closed container can remain there for a long time. For longer storage, also follow the manufacturer’s instructions on batteries and ambient temperature. Do not open housing parts simply to investigate. External care is for cleaning and preservation; work inside the optic, on the adjustment mechanism or on seals is servicing.
