Switzerland: 300 m / 328.1 yrd – Brügger, Rütsch and Rumo win the 2026 Sense district championship

The Swiss Shooting Sport Federation has published the results of the postponed 300 m prone match at Wünnewil. Format and scoring explain why 138.1 points cannot be the final result alone.

Sport shooting · Disciplines

On 3 November 2026 the Swiss Shooting Sport Federation published the results of the Sense district championship in the 300 m prone match. The competition had been postponed from late August and took place at the Wünnewil range; Markus Brügger, Joshua Rütsch and Oliver Rumo won the three categories. The event is relevant for German-speaking readers because of its distance and format: 300 m / 328.1 yrd with single shots on command and scoring to one decimal place. This account is based on the federation's report, not on our own observation.

Key points

– Federation report of Tuesday, 3 November 2026, author Ueli Blatti, Swiss Shooting newsroom.
– Venue: Wünnewil range; postponed from late August, according to the federation because of a technical defect.
– Qualifying programme of 40 shots on the A10 target with a 10 cm ring diameter in whole points, the championship final ten single shots on command scored to one decimal.
– Access to the final: the top twelve in category A (free rifles), the top six each in category D (Stgw 57/03) and category E (Stgw 90).
– Final ranking per the federation: total of the championship final plus ten per cent of the qualifying programme. Winning scores 138.1 points (category D) and 130.5 points (category E); for category A the federation gives no totals.

A postponed competition with a new organiser

According to the federation, the event had to be moved from late August because of a technical defect at the range and was held on the Saturday of the preceding week at Wünnewil. The report does not give a date for the competition; from the day of publication and the wording, 31 October 2026 follows arithmetically – a deduction by the editorial team, not a documented date. The competition was organised for the first time by Daniel Hayoz, the new head of elite sport of the Sense shooting sport association. Morning fog and changing light made the work harder for some competitors, according to the report.

Format: whole points in qualifying, decimals in the final

The qualifying programme comprised 40 shots on the A10 target, whose ring diameter the federation gives as 10 cm – at 300 m / 328.1 yrd, by our own conversion, roughly 0.33 MRAD or about 1.15 MOA. The championship final then consisted of ten single shots on command scored to one decimal.

Our own assessment: ten shots scored to one decimal yield at most 109.0 points, ten per cent of a 40-shot qualifying programme at most 40.0 points. The published 138.1 points can therefore only be the combined final ranking, not the final result alone.

The decisions in the three categories

In category A, Samira Rumo-Baeriswyl led by one point before the last shot, according to the federation, then scored 8.8 and fell back; Markus Brügger hit 10.1 and won. In category D, Joshua Rütsch did not drop below 9.6 points with any shot, per the federation. In category E, Philipp Egger recorded a miss on the seventh shot and finished last.

Category A, free rifles

1 · Markus Brügger (St. Antoni) · winner, last shot 10.1; no total published
2 · Samira Rumo-Baeriswyl · last shot 8.8; no total published
3 · Damian Brügger (Plaffeien-Brünisried) · last shot 10.5; 0.3 points ahead of fourth
4 · Dario Jungo (St. Ursen) · 0.7 points behind first

Category D, Stgw 57/03

1 · Joshua Rütsch (Ueberstorf) · 138.1 points
2 · Mario Brülhart (Wünnewil-Flamatt) · 136.6 points
3 · Emil Pfammatter (Wünnewil-Flamatt) · 136.0 points

Category E, Stgw 90

1 · Oliver Rumo (Plaffeien-Brünisried) · 130.5 points
2 · Marcel Mauron (Wünnewil-Flamatt) · 128.6 points
3 · Adrian Dutly (Heitenried) · 2.3 points behind second

Previous years – and where the sources diverge

In 2025 the competition took place at Tafers, according to the federation report of 9 September 2025; in category A, Sven Riedo and Heribert Sturny were level in the final on 101.8 points each, and Riedo won on the strength of a qualifying programme better by 0.7 points. In 2024 the venue was Ueberstorf, according to the federation report of 9 September 2024. In 2023 Adrian Dutly set a district record in category E with 136.1 points, according to the federation report of 12 September 2023 – more than the 130.5 points of the 2026 winner.

Three contradictions remain open. The 2025 report gives a final total of 101.8 points for category A, the 2026 report figures above 109 points for categories D and E; the numbers concern different scoring stages and are not directly comparable. The winner of category E is listed in 2026 as Oliver Rumo, in 2024 as Olivier Rumo. Hans Spack is assigned to the Ueberstorf club in 2026 and to Wünnewil-Flamatt in 2025.

Assessment

300 m / 328.1 yrd is the distance at which German long-range shooting also begins. At the BDS German Long Range Championship 2026, held from 2 to 4 October 2026 at the Airbase Shooting Range Wiechlice in Poland, the standard classes shot 300, 600 and 800 m / 328.1, 656.2 and 874.9 yrd, and the Magnum class (LR3) 600, 800 and 1,000 m / 656.2, 874.9 and 1,093.6 yrd. Anyone training on Swiss 300 m ranges is working at the lowest step of a programme that is tested across several distances in Germany.

Two points are practical. The Swiss format demands single shots on command, scored to one decimal, on a fixed ring target; anyone coming from the PRS field trains hold, trigger work and light assessment with it, not position changes and time pressure. And the scoring of "final plus ten per cent of qualifying" rewards a stable qualifying programme more than it appears: 40.0 possible additional points stand against 109.0 possible final points.

In equipment terms, categories D and E are restricted to ordnance rifles; only category A admits free rifles. A rifle built for BDS classes such as LR1 (F/TR) or LR2 (Open) therefore does not automatically fit the Swiss categories. For shooters in Germany who wish to handload, note that reloading requires a permit under section 27 of the Explosives Act.

Open questions

– The date of the competition is not documented; 31 October 2026 is a deduction by the editorial team.
– No point totals are available for category A, only margins and single-shot values. Whether a complete ranking will follow is open.
– Participant numbers per category are not documented.
– Whether a district record exists in categories A and D cannot be taken from the reports examined; only the 136.1 points in category E from 2023 are documented.
– A report with an identical title is held by a regional news portal but was not readable on 6 November 2026 because the page delivers no content without JavaScript. A comparison is outstanding.
– The official spelling Oliver or Olivier Rumo and the club assignment of Hans Spack are unresolved.
