What characterises 6 mm cartridges in precision sport?

6 mm BR Norma, 6 mm Dasher and 6 mm Creedmoor belong to a similar bullet-diameter class, but are different cartridges. They differ in case shape, development history and technical standards, among other things, and are not interchangeable. Each cartridge type also covers different bullets and performance figures.

In precision sport, this group is considered partly for the relationship between bullet mass, flight behaviour and recoil. The small diameter alone does not explain those properties. Drag depends on the complete shape and mass. High initial velocity also says nothing by itself about group size or how rapidly velocity is lost.

Heat load, barrel wear and ammunition consistency also belong in the assessment. Higher performance does not automatically improve every property. The names help readers understand reports and results lists. They are not a ranking and cannot replace comparison of specific versions tested under matching conditions.
