What is the Precision Rifle Series?
PRS stands for Precision Rifle Series. It is a competition series for precision rifle shooters. A competition, also called a match, consists of several tasks known as stages. Each stage has a set time allowance. Hits are scored, and the combined stage scores form the match result. Depending on the series, results also count towards a season ranking.

In everyday use, “PRS” can also describe a similar style of competition. A club event labelled “PRS-style” therefore does not automatically belong to the official series. This distinction matters for rules, rankings and qualification.
PRS combines different sporting tasks. It is not solely about producing the smallest possible group under identical conditions. Permitted equipment depends on factors including the series and scoring division. Centrefire and rimfire competitions differ too. The organiser’s match announcement and the applicable rulebook provide the authoritative information.
