How do Team, Field and Service Rifle formats differ?
Team competitions may add together individual scores from several participants. Other formats involve shared tasks. “Field” often describes competitions with changing environments or tasks. Neither word alone tells you which rules apply. How cooperation and scoring are organised is one of the key differences.

“Service Rifle” is a traditional sporting term in several countries. Such a civilian competition is not automatically professional service training. Canada also has a pairs format called Precision Rifle. Its similar name does not make it identical to the American Precision Rifle Series.
Weitschuss therefore classifies events by what they actually involve. A civilian match belongs in sport even if its name has a service origin. A report about agency requirements belongs in the professional service section. Sporting tasks inspired by hunting must likewise be distinguished from actual hunting. This keeps different rules and applications clear.
